COVERAGE FOR COVID-RELATED ILLNESS INCLUDED ON EMERGENCY MEDICAL INSURANCE

As Canada and the world moves closer to travelling once again with safety and screening protocols, continued COVID-testing, and vaccination programs, future travel is becoming more of a possibility. Travel medical insurance with enhanced COVID coverage is another layer of security that can help you feel assured about travelling now if you need to and in future when the governmental travel advisory is no longer in effect.

There are many travel medical insurance plans that offer COVID coverage now; however, this coverage varies. Research and review these plans to see what fits your travel protection needs and makes you feel confident to carry with you on your future travels.

Where there is a Level 3 Global Affairs travel advisory (“avoid non-essential travel”), you may be eligible for up to $2.5 million CAD in coverage from Travel Medical Insurance plans by Orion Travel Insurance if you have received at least one COVID vaccine approved by Health Canada at least 14 days prior to departure date and follow through with your provincial vaccine guidelines.

Starting July 1, 2021, if you are fully vaccinated (received all doses of a Health Canada-approved vaccine) and the last dose of those vaccines was administered at least 14 days prior to departure, you may be eligible for up to $5 million CAD in coverage.

When the Global Affairs travel advisory is lowered to a Level 1 or 2, and it’s safe to travel, COVID-related illness would be eligible for up to $5 million CAD coverage from Orion Travel Insurance, just like any other illness.

If you still have questions about travel medical insurance COVID coverage, a travel insurance professional could provide answers outside of online resources or friends or family. As a CAA-owned company, Orion Travel Insurance is available through our partnerships across Canada. Learn more here.
